Trimester-specific effects of maternal exposure to organophosphate flame retardants on offspring size at birth: A prospective cohort study in China

چکیده

Organophosphate flame retardants (OPFRs) are substantially applied as and plasticizers in consumer products. Although the embryonic developmental toxicity of OPFRs has been reported, human data limited critical windows susceptibility to exposure urgently need be identified. Here, we investigated trimester-specific associations between prenatal OPFR birth size for first time. The concentrations 15 metabolites tris(2-chloroethyl) phosphate were repeatedly determined urine samples 213 pregnant women collected first, second, third trimesters Wuhan, China, anthropometric retrieved from medical records. In multiple informant models, urinary bis(1,3-dichloro-2-propyl) (BDCIPP) bis(2-butoxyethyl) (BBOEP) trimester, 4-hydroxyphenyl-diphenyl (4-HO-DPHP) second diphenyl (DPHP) trimester negatively associated with weight, among which a significant difference exposure-effect relationships across three was observed BDCIPP. BBOEP correlated length varying effects. Our results suggest that certain may impair fetal growth, fetus is vulnerable BDCIPP trimester.

Arsenic exposure during pregnancy and size at birth: a prospective cohort study in Bangladesh.

The authors evaluated the association of prenatal arsenic exposure with size at birth (birth weight, birth length, head and chest circumferences). This prospective cohort study, based on 1,578 mother-infant pairs, was conducted in Matlab, Bangladesh, in 2002-2003. Arsenic exposure was assessed by analysis of arsenic in urine collected at around gestational weeks 8 and 30. The association of ars...

Temporal Trends in Exposure to Organophosphate Flame Retardants in the United States

During the past decade, use of organophosphate compounds as flame retardants and plasticizers has increased. Numerous studies investigating biomarkers (i.e., urinary metabolites) demonstrate ubiquitous human exposure and suggest that human exposure may be increasing. To formally assess temporal trends, we combined data from 14 U.S. epidemiologic studies for which our laboratory group previously...

New Details on Organophosphate Flame Retardants Exposure in Men Appears Stable over Time A new study evaluating human exposure to two organophosphate flame retardants, tris(1,3-dichloro-2-propyl) phosphate (TDCPP) and triphenyl phosphate (TPP), suggests that metabolites from a single urine sample may be useful as biomarkers of longer-term exposure [EHP 121(5):580–585; http://dx.doi.org/10.1289/...
